Announcing 2-week accelerated Workshops in summer 2018

Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Session II: July 23 to August 3, 2018

Workshop

Manning’s Global Entrepreneurship Exchange (GE2) is inviting students and faculty from UMass Lowell’s International Partners to attend 2-week class on Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Lowell, MA

The Course is designed tohelpstudents understand the importanceofentrepreneurshipand innovation in today'sglobaleconomyand tocultivateanentrepreneurial mind-set, will work in inter-disciplinary,multi-culturalenvironments exploring problem solvingtechniques, opportunities identification, businessconcept development andventureplanningusingstandard business modelframeworkand bringingideas toreality.

TheCoursewill requirestudents to work onreal lifetechnological projectsandevaluatetheircommercialization potentials and opportunities. Theseprojects will be sourced from a number of sources, includingmedical devices start-up ventures from M2D2,NewVenture Development within UML’s CVIP, UML’s DifferenceMaker teams, students’ own ideasand othersources. Studentswill berequired to explore opportunities on aglobalbasis, thus will requireto applytheirown national/regional knowledge. Anyventureis built on knowledgein multiple business areassuchasengineering, marketing, operations, finance,etc.

The class will consist of about 50% working on real life projects and rest will be specific topic discussions, case studies, exercises, guest entrepreneurs and field visits. Each project team will be of 5 participants with a balance between discipline, nationality and academic level.

A Certificate will be awarded upon the completion of the workshop.

Field Visits

The Field Visits will include visits to technology companies such as MKS Instruments, iRobot, Wintress Control, Amazon; and visits to incubators including UMass Lowell (Innovation Hub), DifferenceMaker, UMass Maker’s Space and others in the Lowell area.

Accommodations and Travels

All International participants will stay in a brand new, state-of-the-art Residence Hall, fully equipped with all amenities. The Residence hall is comprised of primarily four- and six-person suites, with plenty of common space in each suite. There are also two huge lounges and kitchens on each floor, to go along with other quiet study areas spread throughout the building. Laundry equipment is available in the building. Accommodations will be made keeping in mind multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary intent of the program, that is, mix different nationalities and disciplines. All meals will be provided in the University Dining Hall closer to the Residence Hall and will have a wide selection. Special dietary requirements will be considered.

The participants will have an opportunity to explore Lowell, Boston and surrounding historical and cultural areas during the weekends, and of course, shopping! Lowell offers a unique blend of urban amenities and suburban convenience. Recently featured in Boston Magazine as one of the Top Spots to live in Massachusetts, the City was recognized for its affordability, arts community and public transportation. From inspiring galleries and eclectic

shops to pro sports and international cuisine, Lowell has big city amenities without the big city price tag.

Participants will be provided an Invitation letter for visa and travel to the US.

Local transportation, including to/from Boston airport and train/bus station, and field trips will be included in the program. Other non-local travels, overseas air travels will be participant’s responsibility.

Program Fee

$1,800 per participant which includes up to 16 days of accommodation, meals, local transportation (field trips, airport) and weekend events & activities. Post-Workshop fee will be quoted based on an institution’s requirements.

Post-Workshop Activities

At the request of an institution, GE2 will organize post-workshop activities for up to 4 days. These activities will include visits to Boston & Cambridge area incubators, technology companies, academic institutions (MIT and Harvard) and cultural/historical sites. The Post-Workshop will include accommodation, meals and transportation.

This is an example of a typical Post-Session tours, cost for this 3-day tour is $410 per student, including transportation, lunch, dinner and entrance fees.
